Microsoft ha annunciato che l’aggiornamento invernale della dashboard di Xbox 360: tra le numerose novità, il supporto a Divx e Xvid
Aggiornamento invernale per X360
Microsoft ha reso pubblica la lista di novità introdotta con il nuovo aggiornamento della dashboard di Xbox 360, disponibile per il download a partire dal 4 dicembre.
La serie di novità è davvero lunga e importante ma tra tutte non si puo’ ignorare la compatibilità offerta dall’aggiornamento con il codec Mpeg 4 in tutte le sue varianti. Il supporto al formato assicura la compatibilità con i formati Divx e Xvid, ma non trattandosi di un acquisto in licenza dei due formati cio’ significa che alcune funzionalità come come menu interattivi, capitoli, sottotitoli, tracce audio e video indipendenti e audio fino a 6 canali, non saranno supportate.
La strategia in questo senso rispetto a Sony è differente, giorni fa infatti la compagnia nipponica aveva annunciato che prossimamente la console PS3 sarebbe stata compatibile al 100% con il codec Divx e solo dopo aver ottenuto la certificazione da parte di Divx.com l’aggiormamento sarebbe stato reso disponibile.
C’è da dire comunque che il numero di Divx e Xvid dotati di queste caratteristiche avanzate non è certo elevatissimo e la notizia non raffredderà certo l’entusiasmo degli utenti Xbox 360 che da tempo chiedevano questa compatibilità.
L’aggiornamento renderà possibile anche la visione del codec mpeg4 H.264 (sviluppato da Apple), ampiamente diffuso in rete per la straordinaria qualità della compressione che intacca solo minimamente la qualità del video.
Tra le altre novità presenti in questo aggiornamento
– un nuovo e più efficace controllo parentale, che consentirà ai genitori di limitare il tempo che i loro figli spendono a giocare con Xbox 360;
– l’accesso a Xbox Originals, un servizio attraverso cui gli abbonati al servizio Live di Microsoft possono acquistare classici per Xbox come Burnout 3: Takedown, Crash Bandicoot, Crimson Skies e Halo;
– una versione aggiornata della funzione Friends Playing Now, che permette di trovare amici online con cui giocare in multiplayer (ora non più limitata ai giochi Xbox Live Arcade);
– la possibilità di accedere alle Friends List dei propri amici e di condividere con questi ultimi o con tutto il network informazioni più dettagliate su sé stessi (nome, ranking, note personali ecc.).
