L’ 11 Settembre 2009 è stato assegnato il premio come “miglior prodotto che contribuisce alla diffusione della TV Digitale nel Regno Unito” a PlayTV ed a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe “per aver introdotto nel mercato un prodotto di alto livello tecnologico favorendo in modo concreto alla diffusione del digitale terrestre.”
Nel 2008 a vincere il premio fu Freesat con il suo decoder aperto ai canali in chiaro, mentre nel 2007 fu BSkyB, la SKY del Regno Unito con il primo servizio in HD.

PlayStation PlayTV™ wins Pace/DTG Award for “Best Contribution to Digital TV in the UK”

Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayTV™ for PlayStation®3 has won the 2009 Award for “Best Contribution to Digital TV in the UK”. The Award was presented to the winning Sony team on the evening of Friday 11th September at the IBC 2009 show in Amsterdam – the leading international forum for the electronic media industry.
Launched in 2007 by digital TV technologies developer, Pace plc, and the Digital TV Group (DTG), the industry association for digital TV in the UK, the Award recognises the project, product or service that has made, or has the potential to make, the biggest contribution to the development of digital TV in the UK.
Commenting on winning the award Anja Liebl Programme Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), said: “PlayTV brings a high degree of innovation to the digital TV landscape by combining the TV viewing experience with the gaming environment. We launched PlayTV in the UK with the support of the Digital Tick and Freeview to give consumers the ability to watch, listen, record and remote play TV and Radio programmes delivered over free-to-air DVB-T channels to their PlayStation 3 platform. We are thrilled that the product’s potential has been recognised and delighted to accept this award from digital TV industry luminaries Pace and DTG.”
Presenting the Pace/ DTG Award to the winning PlayTV team, Richard Slee, President Pace UK, said: “At Pace we subscribe firmly to the view that innovation drives the digital TV industry forward and indeed our success over the years is testament to this. We are therefore very pleased to recognise the contribution being made by an innovative product like PlayTV which is helping to address new digital TV audiences building their home entertainment hubs around gaming platforms”.
Richard Lindsay-Davies, Director General of the Digital TV Group added: “Our aim in jointly creating this Award with Pace has always been to highlight innovations that have made a positive impact on the UK digital TV sector. Our 2009 winner is proof of how the continuing evolution of digital television products and services is being driven by innovative product and service development.”
Two further award submissions were also singled out by the Awards judging panel made up of DTG council members: Digital UK was commended for its role in implementation of digital television switchover in the UK; and The Royal National Institute of Blind People was praised for its work on the creation of talking technology for digital television that will vocalise things such as, the EPG, Now and Next, and Channel Identity and improved user interfaces.
Previous winners of the Pace / DTG Award for “Best Contribution to Digital TV in the UK” were, in 2008, Freesat, and the inaugural Award in 2007 went to BSkyB for its SkyHD service.
