Sotto alla nuova architettura.
La nuova AMD Radeon RX 480 è ufficialmente disponibile sul mercato ed è la scheda grafica di nuova generazione che va a battezzare la rivoluzionaria architettura Polaris, rivale diretta della Pascal targata NVIDIA. Innanzitutto, ricordiamo che la nuova RX 480 è stata pensata per poter offrire a tutti la possibilità di godere di una risoluzione 4K nei videogiochi (previa presenza di un monitor apposito) e di usufruire della realtà virtuale spendendo circa 300$, che secondo AMD è la cifra massima che l’84% dei giocatori su PC va a spendere per una nuova VGA. In questo modo, quindi, questa enorme fetta di utenza non dovrà più rinunciare alle nuove tecnologie e potrà sfruttarle senza necessariamente sborsare somme esorbitanti, con conseguenti benefici anche per il 4K e, soprattutto, i visori VR, che potranno diffondersi più velocemente.
Tra le specifiche tecniche della scheda in questione, spiccano la bellezza di 36 Core Units, 5.8 TFLOPS di potenza, base clock di 1120 MHz e interfaccia a 256-bit, il tutto per un consumo di soli 150W. La RX 480 è acquistabile a partire da oggi in versione 4GB o 8GB, rispettivamente al prezzo di 220€ e 262€ (circa 300€, purtroppo, in Italia, e tutti sappiamo il motivo).
In occasione del lancio ufficiale della nuova top di gamma, AMD ha anche svelato alcune nuove informazioni riguardanti Polaris e le altre due attese schede grafiche della serie RX, ovvero la RX 470 e la RX 460.
Innanzitutto, la nuova architettura prevede due versioni: Polaris 11 e Polaris 10. “Pargolo” della nuova famiglia, la Polaris 11 dispone di una potenza superiore a 2 TFLOPS e fino a 16 CU (Core Units) oltre ad un’interfaccia a 128-bit e codifica/decodifica di video 4K; la Polaris 10, invece, è la punta di diamante di AMD e vede una potenza di oltre 5 TFLOPS, fino a 36 CU, interfaccia a 256-bit e codifica/decodifica di video 4K.
Per quanto concerne la RX 470 e la RX 460, AMD non ha ancora mostrato una “estetica definitiva” delle due schede video, ma ha rivelato le loro specifiche tecniche. La RX 460 sarà adatta al gaming eSports e disporrà di 14 Core Units, 2GB GDDR5, interfaccia a 128-bit; inoltre, non necessiterà di un connettore PCI visti i consumi ridottissimi e potrà far fede alla sola scheda madre. Come si può dedurre, la RX 460 monterà la Polaris 11, ma il fatto di avere 14 CU anziché i 16 CU massimi riportati poco sopra fa presagire che AMD deve ancora mostrare la top VGA di questa versione dell’architettura.
La RX 470, invece, è stata progettata per offrire un’esperienza impeccabile nel gaming in HD e vanterà 32 Core Units, 4GB GDDR5 e un’interfaccia a 256-bit, il tutto, probabilmente, per una cifra fra i 150 e i 200$. Mancano ancora alcuni dati tecnici importanti come la potenza in TFLOPS per questi prossimi due arrivi, ma possiamo già farci un’idea delle loro performance in gioco.
Insomma, AMD ha tutte le carte in regola per rivoluzionare il mercato delle schede grafiche, high-end e non, proponendo un rapporto qualità/prezzo attualmente imbattibile, soprattutto tenendo conto della possibilità di godere di 4K e realtà virtuale spendendo poco più di 300$.
